About Us

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church has been proclaiming the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to the people of Hardwick for over a century. We are a Confessional Lutheran Church of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS).

The LCMS is a church body of over 6,100 congregations with more than 2.3 million members. Worldwide, Lutheranism is the largest non-Roman Catholic denomination with 59 million members.

The word “Missouri” reveals the geographic roots of our synod, founded in the 1840’s near St. Louis, Missouri. The word “synod” means “walking together” and reflects the unity in doctrine and practice which the congregations of the LCMS make every effort to share.

As confessional Lutherans, we stand firmly on the truths that God has revealed to us in Holy Scripture. We call ourselves “confessional” because we make and confess clear statements of faith about the things we believe. All our beliefs are derived solely from the Word of God and openly expressed for all to study in our Lutheran Confessions as published in The Book of Concord.
